Camera-based river discharge measurements
Camera-based River Discharge Measurements
The TEMBO Africa BLOSM neutron counter is a device for measuring the thermal/fast ratio of neutrons in the atmosphere, which is representative of the soil moisture content in a 300 m radius area. The device is effective down to 50 cm below the surface, making it suitable for monitoring root-zone soil moisture.
OUR SENSOR SOLUTIONS

Open River Cam
The OpenRiverCam software ecosystem offers a fully scalable free and open-source software solution for measuring river discharge and water levels with use of simple camera systems. OpenRiverCam’s unique selling point is that entirely operational Internet-of-Things-like sites can be established (e.g. measuring every 10 minutes and sending data real-time to our central platform), that as many sites as you like can be maintained, and that all data can flow to your own deployed central live dashboard and API, ready for operational use in websites, apps, forecasting systems and more.

Free in all possible ways
The software is not only free for use, it is also entirely open-source, and it can be used without any limitations whatsoever, thanks to the AGPL-3.0 license on all components. OpenRiverCam’s most prominent components for an operational service are:
- LiveOpenRiverCam: the dashboard and API of OpenRiverCam, allowing you to manage sites, time series, single videos, and users and user organizations. This allows you to run OpenRiverCam as a Software as a Service, either for your own organization, or for clients that you may wish to serve. Start quickly using our easy-to-use deployment script that sets up all services in a virtualized docker environment within an hour.
- NodeOpenRiverCam: the work horse on-site. You can install NodeOpenRiverCam on a small device on-site, to directly process videos, and send results back to LiveOpenRiverCam. For Raspberry Pi devices, we have ready-to-use images with NodeORC pre-installed. You can configure your local storage setup and video feed, and connection to LiveOpenRiverCam. The device will regularly connect to LiveOpenRiverCam. After this, all configuration can be done remotely using LiveOpenRiverCam. NodeOpenRiverCam is fully compatible with the PtBox.

Discharge Keeper
The DischargeKeeper (DK) is an image-based system capable of measuring the volumetric flow in rivers and canals of different sizes under different light and flow conditions. The system can be implemented as an edge or as a cloud system. The cloud system only needs a camera with Internet connection to send videos to the cloud, the edge system has a processing unit installed at the site where the processing is done.

ptBox
The ptBox is a cost-effective, modular hardware for image acquisition and processing, it is based on Raspberry Pi. The main components are a camera, a power management module and a modem for data transmission. The ptBox can host any image processing software which can run on a Raspberry Pi. It comes with an API which makes it easy to interact with its Hardware components.
The ptBox has a lower total cost of ownership and its installation and maintenance is simple.
